Well. Hello there, again.

I feel a little like, every time I get into a routine with LJ (and writing) again, my life blows up in a way that sends me scurrying back into disarray and hiding. Clearly my real life is jealous of our relationship, LJ, and is trying to come between us.

Bastards.

Thank you very much, everyone who wished me a happy birthday. This was kind of a nonentity birthday for me this year (for obvious reasons) but I still had a really lovely day. Thank you for that.

I spent about a week in a funk of do-nothing—including writing—but this week, I've been more energetic, puttering around the house, getting my errands run, and getting some writing done.

I had an idea for a Criminal Minds AU that I may end up turning into an original story instead. As fanfic, I'm intimidated by the length; I'm just not up for another long story right now. As original fic, I'm intimidated by the necessary research since pretty much everything I know about the Bureau comes from TV. So I don't know.

Mostly, I'm just grateful to be writing anything. I thought about signing up for a yuletide pinch hit, since I had to so ignobly back out, but I think it's a pipe dream; I'm feeling too shaky about my ability to produce on demand and I can't face bailing twice, especially this close to the deadline. So.

Thinking about January or February, I've still got that JDM ficathon thing I proposed a couple months ago. Which leads me to present the question to the electorate: what kind of ficathon do y'all want?

Option 1: a straight fic exchange where you make a request and you fulfill a request.

Option 2: a prompt based 'thon, where people make prompts and participants pick the prompt they want, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Option 3: free-for-all. Everyone writes whatever they want, as long as JDM is a major character.

Back from Chicago. I'm doing okay. I already did the RL quasi-update elsewhere, but I wanted to thank everyone for the lovely snowflakes and other virtual gifts, for your emails and texts and PMs and phone calls, for your patience, your sympathy and your love. I spent a good portion of my life exercising really poor decision making in my friends and other loved ones and I am still constantly bemused and grateful for ending up here, with the finest people of whom I ever dreamed. Thank you.

I couldn't find it in myself to do much in Chicago; I didn't really read or watch TV and I had internet access only infrequently, so fannishly, I'm really far behind. Other than that brief, indulgent foray into Criminal Minds fandom, I haven't written a damn thing. Which probably means it was a good thing I dropped out of yuletide (and many thanks to elynross for being so incredibly understanding!) That's not an apology, it's just the facts. I don't feel bad about it, but I keep poking at that place, that squishy little gland of squee and interest, seeing if I can make it wake up again. I know it'll come--hell, the CM ficlet was only after a week, right?--but y'all know how impatient I am. And all the things that I can never just come out and say, all the things I can't process in other ways, always come out in my writing.

So. That happened.

Our holiday decorations have gone up earlier than usual this year, as we've had a bit of a crap time as a family lately. I won't go into full detail about everything, but while the latest incident sounds funny it really wasn't - Mom nearly choked to death on a PEA. She was eating lunch, and instead of going where it was supposed to, the pea went down her WINDPIPE. You know, where it blocked her LUNGS. 999 had to be called and everything. Thank God, the pea is now out but Mom has bruised ribs.

So! At her request, the tree went up earlier this year. As well as the more typical baubles, figurines and pine cones, we also have Trip Tucker (a character from Enterprise, a surprise gift from tv_elf one year. I loved the thought at the time and now that Abby's gone, Christmas will always make me think of her <3 ), a festive Statue of Liberty (from my visit to - surprise! - the Statue of Liberty), Superman (found in a Boston Christmas store that was closing down), a dog named Randy (from an online friend :D), a clip-on Cabbage Patch Kid Doll (CREEPY, yet traditional for us), a mini-version of Charlie - and a unicorn with a heart on its butt, various teddy bears, an elephant, and a couple of frilly hearts, all made by Mom. We used to have a fabulous vampire bat, also made by Mom, but sadly he fell apart a few years ago D:
